NaijaHook is a social dating and meetup app for consenting adults (18+) in Nigeria. This policy explains how we handle personal data under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA).

We are the data controller of your personal data under the NDPA.
2. What NaijaHook is (and is not)
NaijaHook lets users create profiles, discover people nearby, chat, and — if both people choose — arrange to meet in person.
We do not organise, sell, broker, or guarantee meetups. We do not provide escort, paid companionship, or any similar service. We do not process payments from one user to another. Any payment to us is only for NaijaHook Premium (in-app features).
3. What personal data we collect
- Account & profile: display name, username, date of birth, gender, photos, bio, preferences, email, and related profile fields.
- Location: approximate only, with consent. We do not show exact GPS coordinates to other users.
- Device & technical: IP address, device identifiers, app version, crash and usage logs.
- Communications: in-app chats (including encrypted chats where enabled), reports, and support messages you send us.
- Verification: a live selfie used to check that your profile photo matches a real person. Used only for Verified Profile and retained only as needed for safety and fraud prevention.
- Payments: if you buy Premium, Paystack processes payment details. We do not store full card numbers on NaijaHook servers.
Photos and relationship preferences may be sensitive in context. We process them with your consent or another lawful basis under the NDPA.
4. Why we process data (lawful bases)
- To operate your account, matching, Discover, Explore, chat, and related features → contract / consent.
- Approximate location for nearby matching → consent.
- Safety, fraud prevention, verification, abuse handling → legitimate interests / legal obligation.
- Service improvement and analytics → legitimate interests or consent.
- Service notices and optional marketing → consent where required.
- Legal compliance and lawful requests → legal obligation.
5. How we share data
We do not sell your personal data. We may share with:
- Service providers under contract (hosting, analytics, verification, email, and payment processing via Paystack).
- Law enforcement, regulators, or courts when legally required.
- Other users only as you choose to show on your profile or in chat.
We do not share data so that users can pay each other through NaijaHook.
6. International transfers
Some providers may process data outside Nigeria. Where that happens, we use appropriate safeguards under the NDPA.
7. Retention
We keep data only as long as needed for the purposes above or as required by law. Request deletion in the app (Settings) or email support@naijahook.com. We may retain limited records where the law requires (for example fraud, safety, or tax).
8. Security
We use encryption in transit, access controls, and other measures, including end-to-end encryption for chats where enabled. No system is completely secure. Protect your password and device.
9. Your rights (NDPA)
You may: be informed, access, rectify, erase, restrict processing, object, request portability, and withdraw consent.
Email support@naijahook.com or use in-app Settings → Your data. We will respond without undue delay. You may also complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).
10. Children
NaijaHook is strictly 18+. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If we learn that a minor has an account, we will delete it.
11. This website
naijahook.com is our marketing and support site. Store buttons may link to Google Play or the Apple App Store, which have their own policies.
12. Changes
We will notify you of material changes in the app or by email. Continued use after the effective date, where permitted by law, means you accept the updated policy.
